The Multimedia Initiative Hegi Castle (Schloss Hegi)
The Multimedia Initiative Hegi Castle (Schloss Hegi) is a project that visually explores the history of Hegi Castle, the village of Hegi and the Hegi family.
The central castle tower was probably built around 1200 by the Lords of Hegi.
Hegi experienced its heyday around 1500 under the Lords of Hohenlandenberg, who had also other buildings constructed with remarkable interiors. The richly decorated tower room and the castle chapel are reminiscent of the most important owner, the Bishop of Constance Hugo von Hohenlandenberg.
From 1587, Hegi served as Zurich's chief bailiff. It went into private ownership in the 19th century and was acquired by Prof. Dr. Friedrich Hegi in 1915. He restored the dilapitated seat together with his wife, Isabella Hegi-Naef, and founded a museum.
The Castle Association formed in 2010 is now responsible for the castle complex and oversees the museum, the Pro-Specie-Rara plant garden and the castle tavern. It also organizes events such as theater performances and concerts.
The Multimedia Initiative Hegi Castle (Schloss Hegi) is designed for the long term, substantially funded and supported by experts in the fields of history, infotainment concepts, real estate management and high-quality visualizations.
All the pictures shown here are from before the renovation in 2022/23.
Special thanks for their participation go to Peter Niederhäuser (Winterthur), a well-known castle and palace historian from the German-speaking area, Juerg Rohner (Hegi), President of the Hegi Castle Association, and Michael Künzle, Mayor of the city of Winterthur and thus the highest representative of the Hegi Castle ownership.
